Satyajit Ray …. pride of Bengal !!

Satyajit Ray  (1921 – 1992) ______  one of my favorite director n a proud pride of Bengal. He is known for his humanistic approach to cinema n for which he had won many International awards as well. He also is the first n only one Indian to recieve an Honorary Oscar in 1992 for Life Time Achievement.

He made movies in Bengali – my most fav  are : Path-er Pachali (Song of the Road – 1955) —  Ghar-e Bair-e (The home n the world-1984) — Agantuk (The Stranger – 1991 his last movie) —- Hirook Raja-er Desh-e (In the kingdom of Hirook). All his movies are about relationships – emotions- struggle – conflict- joy n sorrow. A very realistic touch in everything he did …. be it the script of his movie or the thrilling suspense stories (creator of the famous character – Feluda) he wrote for children in the Bengali magazine “Sandesh” – which he revived n continue to publish. It was actually found by his grandfather Upendrakishore Ray.

I remember an incident : when we went to Rome (Italy) – i was in grade 7 ….. as the class teacher was introducing me to the class – she asked me to tell about myself. I told my name – Sharmila Ray …. at which she asked if i were related to Satyajit Ray. At that age too i knew he was a Bengali director (Thank God i did – otherwise it would have been so embarrassing that a foreigner knew about him whereas i a Bengali didn’t) and i told her  “No – i m not ….. !!!  ”

It’s his birth anniversery today ….
